Results At A Glance
2009-2010 In November, 4,800 students from 20 Austin area schools participated in The Drive, collecting 31,114 lbs. of food and over 2,000 Coats for Kids. Overall, students contributed $214,669.32 back to the community, including 20,108 hours of good work.
2008-2009 • In our second pilot year, the 14 participating schools represented a 56% increase over the nine schools that participated in A Legacy of Giving during the initial year of operation.
• During The Drive program, students collected 32,244 pounds of food, clothing, and basic essentials to address the issue of hunger, homeless and poverty in Central Texas.
• In just a few weeks, elementary, middle and high school students in 14 area schools returned a philanthropic equivalent of more than $182,322 in economic value to our community!
• Three Austin-area schools placed among the nation’s top ten classes for food and clothing collections during The Drive, the nation’s largest student-run food and clothing collection. Student delegates from each of these schools were honored in New York City by The LEAGUE for their hard work. While there, students participated in a service project with Soaring Words, a nonprofit that encourages the community to embrace the needs of ill children and their families.
• Students in A Legacy of Giving’s Financial Literacy program at Webb Middle School accepted the award as national champions of The LEAGUE State Farm Financial Literacy Grant Poster Competition at the 20th Annual National Service-Learning Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
2007-2008 • The philanthropic efforts of the 2,200 students in nine pilot schools – giving their time, talent and treasure -- netted $130,685 in economic value to the greater Austin community. In the first year of operation, A Legacy of Giving had a considerable impact on the students and the students made a significant impact on the community.
• Five Austin-area schools placed in the top ten nationally for their performance during one or more of the philanthropy education events guided by A Legacy of Giving. Student representatives were honored by The LEAGUE in New York City and participated in LEAGUE meetings and celebrations.
• St. Gabriel’s Catholic School was selected by The LEAGUE as the top “difference making” private school in Texas for 2007-2008. Student representatives from the school were honored by President Bush at a White House reception.
