Success Stories
2011-2012 School Year 3rd Annual Day of Service Results Legacy’s 3rd Annual Day of Service resulted in 3,192 donated coats, which will be given to youth in need on Coats for Kids Distribution Day. Capital Area Food Bank weighed a grand total of 45,010 lbs. of donated food, which translates to an economic equivalent of over $185,000 back to our community.

Legacy’s year end results are in. During the 2010-2011 school year, Legacy student philanthropists returned an equivalent of $322,608 in economic value to the Austin area, including 31,948 hours of good work.

The grand total for all A Legacy of Giving schools for 2009-2010 was $309,545 in economic value given back to the community, including 28,774 hours of good work.
Caraway Elementary Students Educate Public on Native Texas Flora & Fauna This spring, all nine of the 3rd and 4th grade classes at Kathy Caraway Elementary in the Round Rock Independent School District took part in a unique outreach academic service learning project focusing on Central Texas native flora and fauna. Break It Down: 5th Graders are Crazy about Composting Fifth grade students at Clayton Elementary have been learning about environmental stewardship and how to give back to the land by turning their food waste into nutrient-rich soil. More.
The Drive In November, 4,800 students from 20 Austin area schools participated in The Drive, collecting 31,114 lbs. of food and over 2,000 Coats for Kids. Overall, students contributed $214,669.32 back to the community, including 20,108 hours of good work. Day of Service On the day before Thanksgiving, more than 200 people – students, teachers and parent volunteers - participated in the first annual Day of Service. More.
Great Feedback on Learning to Give/The League Character Education Curriculum In September, 16 middle school teachers from Austin Independent School District met with A Legacy of Giving Executive Director Linda Brucker and teacher liaisons Lauren Maples and Shannon Sherwood at Kealing Middle School to discuss the successes and challenges of the new Character Education program. Football Coaches Ready to Tackle Blue Sky and Philanthropy 101! It’s the first day of school and as the sixth grade World Cultures students step into the portable classrooms of teachers Patrick McNally and David Sammon, they are in for a whole different ballgame. More.
AISD Creates Lessons to Teach Philanthropy in Advisory Texas’ Austin Independent School District, in partnership with Learning to Give, has launched its first year of Character Education curriculum for middle school grades 6-9. More.
2008-2009 School Year National Honors for Webb Middle School On March 18, 2009, Austin ISD Webb Middle School students accepted the national champions award for The LEAGUE State Farm Financial Literacy Grant Poster Competition at the 20th Annual National Service-Learning Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. National Recognition for Three Central Texas A Legacy of Giving Schools Eight Austin Independent School District students were awarded a trip to New York City on February 2009 for their philanthropic efforts. More.
National Recognition and a Trip to Meet the President St. Gabriel’s Catholic School students Drake Scallon, Chandler Diedrich, Connor Brucker, and Michael Martinez were honored for their volunteerism as representatives of their fellow classmates at a September 8, 2008, White House ceremony with President George W.
